The New River Farmhouse offers a country atmosphere -in the vintage farmhouse, the decorating and in the setting. Situated just across the lane from the New River, with frontage along both the river as well a stocked trout stream, you'll find this country cottage the ideal spot to rock your cares away on the front porch. You might be mistaken for a local if you offer a friendly wave to the occasional passing car.
The vintage wood cabinets in the kitchen will take you back to yesterday and possibly your own memories of living in or visiting family who had one of these beautiful pine kitchens. You'll find all the basics you need to settle in for a few days or a week as you use this cottage as a base for your explorations. Of course, you may just want to stay close to home and explore the river and creek.
The pine paneled dining room has a table for 4, and adjoining bar offers seating for two more. Or you can dine al fresco by the river at the picnic table, enjoying the early evening light, the sounds of the water flowing past, watch the fireflies as dusk settles upon the region, and maybe spot a trout taking advantage of the shifting light. In the mountains, outdoor living is at its finest, and this property's setting by the river provides so many options.
In the evenings, you and your friends or family might choose to gather around the fire pit by the river - we are thinking maybe some s'mores are in order? Or you can all catch a movie - Netflix's vast selection is available at your fingertips. If you can't decide on which show to watch, there's a second TV in the bedroom with the Queen bed. You'll also find a DVD player and some options from the owner's collection of movies.
The farmhouse sleeps up to six people, with 3 bedrooms offering a comfortable King-size bed in one, Queen in another, and a full in the third. Quilts on the bed bring you back in time. In true vintage cottage living, they share a bathroom. Wood floors throughout the farmhouse add to the charm, and you'll enjoy the sounds of the rain on the metal roof.

The New River Farmhouse is located on the eastern side of Ashe County, and northeast of the town of Jefferson. From this location, you are able to get to the New River State Park's main location, which has an interesting and educational visitors' center, where you'll learn about the local hellbenders, which make their home in the river. We won't tell you more about these intriguing creatures - you'll have to find out for yourself.
You can also head up north to Grayson County, just over the line into Virginia, for a visit to the outstanding Grayson Highlands State Park, just barely over 30 minutes north, which is loaded with history in its cabin displays, hiking trails, and a wonderful display at the visitors' center. Recent Reviews About This Property
"The house is on a very quiet road, ideal for walking. Picturesque by the river, but 10/15 minutes from Jefferson/West Jefferson. While it is a quiet road, it snowed while we were there and our road was ploughed by 11am the next day - very impressed.
The decor is definitely old, but everything in the kitchen worked, and there is plenty of kitchen equipment, utensils, etc.
Three things that could be improved. One, a hairdryer would have been helpful. Second, both my husband and I developed itchy eyes in the house - not sure if it was dust, or something else. Didn't affect our stay as we were out hiking most of the day, but worth mentioning. And lastly, we left on a Sunday, so didn't have to take our trash, but I'd have been irritated to pay a hefty cleaning fee and still have to remove my trash!
However, all in all, would definitely recommend this property. Lovely small house in a great location.
"Nice quiet location, nice older farmhouse."
"I loved it! Would return and recommend . "
"We visited to do some trout fishing in the mountains, had a very good time."
"The house was very well kept and clean. All the amenities were included. Only issue is that the home is not very well lit - a bit dark inside. Changing the bulbs from incandescent to LED not only would brighten up the place, but use less electricity. Otherwise, it's charming, quiet and peaceful."

"The home was equipped with everything you need for your home away from home in a quiet setting! It reminded me of my grandma's house!!"
"Our vacation in the River Farmhouse was everything we could have asked. We loved the house, being by the river. We grilled outside every evening and sat by our campfire, surrounded by fireflies, every evening. We can't wait to go back again."
Response from StayBlueRidge:Thank you for the rave review! We look forward to hosting you again soon.
"In light of the coronavirus my son was in able to travel out of the country for his honeymoon The Farmhouse on the New River was so beautiful my son and his new bride we're so pleased quiet peace Beauty and serenity all came in one.."
"Great Location we had a great time fishing in the river and good location for kayaking. We would love to come back again soon. Our last day there we had a very traumatic event happen and my husband was in the hospital most of the night. I called the rental company to ask for a later checkout if possible because he was finally getting some sleep. I do not know the ladies name that I spoke to but she was so very nice and understanding and she told us that was not a problem at all and if there was anything they could do to help just let them know. Thank you so much for you kindness and we will definitely use Stay Blue Ridge again."
"The house location is great for kids. Private, very little traffic on the road. Our grandsons, 9 and 7 years old had a blast. They were able to play in the stream, swimming, jumping rocks, fishing. We had campfires at night. Sat on the porch while they played in the yard. The house is clean and comfy. The kitchen has the basics but I struggled without nonstick pans. Overall everything was wonderful and we are looking forward to staying here again."
