To get the most out of your mountain vacation, you just can't beat a cabin on the river, with fun and adventure built in! Here you can enjoy not only great views, but also the convenience of putting your canoe or tube directly into the water from your own yard!

Serendipity is a light and airy cabin featuring spectacular views from the deck, patio or inside. The tall cathedral ceilings and open floor plan create a spacious, sunny area for socializing. Relax in cozy comfort around the gas log fireplace and prepare meals and snacks in the well-equipped, upscale kitchen with granite countertops and stainless appliances.

A full bathroom and the master bedroom are conveniently located on this main level. Upstairs in the loft the kids will be delighted to find the bunkbed room with beds for 4! The lower level may be the biggest hit, though, with its flatscreen TV, full-size pool table and wood-burning stove.

From this room you can walk straight out to the lawn, just a few steps from the river. The hot tub on the lower patio offers the perfect relaxation after an active day. There's a picnic table for outdoor meals, with access to the downstairs bathroom. A sleeper sofa on this level accommodates extra guests.

Of course, the river itself may be the main selling point of this vacation home. Swim, fish, tube, canoe or kayak whenever you like, without getting in your car. You'll find two major river outfitters within walking distance.

At Serendipity Log Cabin you can do as much or as little as you please. Watch the kids and dog play on the large open lawn, while you enjoy a cocktail or a conversation from the deck. In the evening, gaze at the stars or soak in the hot tub, as you enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

EXPLORE THE HIGH COUNTRY
Serendipity Log Cabin offers a riverfront location in the northern portion of Ashe County, close to Mouth of Wilson and the Virginia line. You'll find Grayson Highlands State Park and the Virginia Creeper Trail to the north, or the New River State Park to the south. For day trips you can easily access the Blue Ridge Parkway, or take a scenic ride to the quaint, historic town of West Jefferson.

The 34.3-mile Virginia Creeper Trail is most commonly accessed from Abingdon or Damascus, VA, ending near Whitetop Station at the VA-NC border. The trail offers a fun-filled day for hikers, bicyclists or horseback riders. Rent a bike and enjoy a casual and very scenic downhill glide with a gentle grade and fun stops along the way. Don't worry about the uphill - a shuttle takes you back to your car! The trail also offers access to excellent trout fishing.

When you aren't biking or splashing in the river, experience a day of small-town life in West Jefferson, with its many inviting shops, art galleries, antique malls, restaurants and caf├ęs. Activities include a movie theater, farmer's market, live music and more. Mountain Aire golf course is less than 10 minutes from town.

The Blue Ridge Parkway gives you access to Boone or Blowing Rock, for more dining and shopping options. Block plenty of time for your drive, so you can stop to enjoy some of the country's most awe-inspiring photo-opps, as well as awesome hiking and biking.

$50 per pet fee, up to 2 dogs.

StayBlueRidge, located in downtown West Jefferson, offers over 50 quality vacation rentals in West Jefferson, Boone and surrounding areas.

Recent Reviews About This Property

"We loved everything about this cabin and can't wait to visit again this summer and go fishing and tubing."

Loretta M. from Chapel Hill, 05/02/2013

"Very nice vacation rental. River is in your backyard. Perfect for fishermen or anyone that kayaks."

Bruce D. from Concord, 06/07/2013

"The location was perfect. Right on the river. Our dogs loved it. We rented a canoe right across the river from the house. The pool table was a hit. I will be back."

Faye S. from State Road, 06/25/2013

"The cabin was extremely neat and clean. When we arrived there we could see that it was well managed and recently renovated. The chairs still had labels on and some of the bedding was still in the original packaging.

The hot tub was also clean and in excellent condition.

We chose this cabin for the location next to the river so we have something for the kids to do while we were there.

The view was beautiful and it was nice and quiet.

Pros:
- VERY CLEAN and neat
- Everything was already there (glasses, coffee filters etc.)
- Awesome location
- pool table
- hottub

Cons (and these are nice to haves)
- trash removal could be a bit easier (have to go dump it yourself in week days)
- need an outside fire pit for s'mores :)

Note: remember to print / save the email with the check-in instructions, there is no reception up there so you can't get it from your email on your phone!!"

from Cumming, 07/01/2013

"The location of the cabin and yard to the river was great. My grandkids loved the pool table that was in the room downstairs because it gave them something to do at night. I was thrilled that my grandkids enjoyed playing in the water, canoeing, fishing, etc. with us adults. They were so busy doing outdoor things around the cabin that they never played their computer games at all. As a grandparent I loved to see them getting exercise, and fresh air for a change. We all had a wonderful time, and are already planning another trip right away for a few more days.
The cabin was nice but a little small for a capacity of 8-10 people. There was 2 sets of bunk beds in loft area,1 bedroom, and a sleeper sofa on main floor. The downstairs also had a sleeper sofa. We had 4 adults, and 4 grandchildren ages 3-14 and was cramped since the living area is not very large. "

Deborah C S. from Collettsville, 07/02/2013

"The house was charming and the view breathtaking! Everything was immaculately clean and well thought out. Our favorite activity was sitting on the bentwood rockers listening to the sounds of the river and birds. Our only complaint would be that we had specified that we were coming with 8 people and there had not been linen left out for the sleeper couches for the last 2 people. I found them in closets, but it would have been nice to have had them available!"

sara R. from Baltimore, 07/24/2013

"My wife and I brought our 4 kids to get away for a few days. The cabin is absolutely gorgeous, with everything provided. The kids had plenty of room and activities to do, with the pool table, hot tub and river. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful. We plan on a return visit soon. The only recommendation we have, is an outdoor fire pit would be nice, but other wise, it is almost impossible to find anything wrong with this cabin. Thank you. We enjoyed it very much."

Erik D. from Raeford, 08/04/2013

"Lovely spot and a pretty and comfortable home. When we were there the river was pretty high and fast, so we couldn't get in the water. Fished off the banks, though, and rented kayaks at the outfitter down the street and had a beautiful 3 hour float. The house looked very clean but my son had an allergy attack when we got there and as I swept the floors I found a rather shocking amount of dog hair. No vacuum on siite but once I swept the whole house and shook all the rugs it was better. Also disliked that we had to haul out the garbage, since the dump sights were all a distance away in the opposite direction that we were traveling. Those annoyances aside, it was overall a great experience and we would love to come back. "

Marla K. from Indian Trail, 08/18/2013

"No better location for bicycle riding; wild flower photography; river fishing, kayaking and tubing; and relaxing evenings on a deck with a great view. Only real drawback is limited storage space."

from Raleigh, 09/19/2013

"My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Serendipity on the New River. The cabin was spacious and ideally located on the banks of the New River. The view was breath taking and the amenities were in abundance…any and everything we could think of needing or wanting was right at our finger tips. We enjoyed our stay so much we booked a return vacation at this cabin in October 2013 while we were on our 2nd of 4 nights… Serendipity on the New River has made a lasting first impression!!!"

Jerome G. from Greenville, 09/26/2013

"Delighted from the moment we opened the door. Cabin had all we needed. The gameroom and the hot tub were a plus. The river view was spectacular. The beds were comfortable. We are looking forward to a return stay very soon."

kelly s. from Tarboro, 10/09/2013

"We did the tree package so it was a little farther than I expected. The property was amazing and I we would stay again."

from Mooresville, 11/30/2013

"Everything was beautiful. The house was more than sufficient for our long weekend. The views are beautiful and were very relaxing. Loved the decor of the house and there were plenty of linens. Only suggestion is maybe to notify visitors they need to bring toilet paper and paper towels. :)"

ashley s. from Bahama, 04/17/2014

"Hope to come back every year. 2nd time renters.
Absolutely perfect peaceful getaway!!"

Mark B. from Gastonia, 04/25/2014

"Cabin was very clean and hot tub was wonderful.
Enjoyed being close to river and access to river outfitters was nice. No fish were caught unfortunately. Would stay again
"

Kim H. from Winston Salem, 08/01/2014

"We were not able to stay more than one night at this beautiful property due to a medical emergency. It had nothing to do with the rental company, but they still offered a discount for us if we can return within one year."

from Fenton, 08/11/2014

"This, my 6th stay at Serendipity, was the best yet. There is no way to visit Serendipity on the New River and not have an awesome time. We were able to appreciate our view from the living room window(s) as we gazed upon the beautiful colors of fall!!! From the cabin to the location to the amenities to unsurpassed customer service from Ashe High Country Vacations LLC... everytime we want to stay in the mountains of N.C. Serendipity is the only logical choice!!! We will be back again soon, i'm sure... I wanna stay for Thanksgiving!!!!"

Jerome G. from Greenville, 10/22/2014

"Beautiful cabin, very relaxing, clean and everything you would need for a short stay. I highly recommend."

from Pinehurst, 11/04/2014

"Excellent for kids they can play out side all day"

luis m. from , 01/05/2015

"Wonderfully appointed home steps away from New River. Great community. More than acceptable views across the river. Level manicured yard to waters edge. Hot tub is under deck so could be used in winter out of elements. Back porch overlooks the river and is so close you can hear the rippling of the water. "

Jamie H. from Statesville, 06/02/2015

" This house is really beautiful. It's perfectly located. The microwave did not work which set me back in the kitchen. "

Beverly R. from Goldsboro, 06/18/2015

"Our stay at the Serindipity was wonderful! If you're looking for a place to spend some quality time with your the family, this cabin is it!"

from Advance, 07/15/2015

"This cabin on the banks of New River is perfect for keeping children happily occupied. The hot tub definitely added to the pleasure of the adults. The only drawback was the severe lack of deck furniture, which was surprising considering the incredible river view from the deck and the lower patio. We were aware of this drawback and brought some lawn chairs of our own, which were much used. I would definitely recommend this cabin and hope to rent it again in the future."

Larry S. from Marriottsville, 08/06/2015

"We love this place we have stayed here the past two years. Just a few things that would make the stay better. The cookwear is old and there isn't a lot we love to cook while we are there because we are on the river everyday. Extra seating on the porch. The only cleaning I would do is the windows the large one den and looking at the river. We love the place and enjoy it every time we stay. "

Douglas J. from Gastonia, 08/11/2015

"We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this beautiful cabin. It was clean, neat, and comfortable. It had everything the web site promised. The yard was beautifully kept. Having the river just a few yards from the cabin gave us a peaceful, relaxing time. We enjoyed visiting Sparta, West Jefferson, Boone, and Blowing Rock."

from Wilson, 08/13/2015

"This was our 2nd visit and had more fun than the first time....even though it rained our whole trip! Great place to stay, very clean. The kids loved learning how to play pool on the pool table. Looking forward to another visit...soon!"

Jan F. from Lexington, 10/21/2015

"We had a great stay. Very beautiful, clean, spacious and everyone had a good time. Definitely want to stay again."

Trish O. from Jacksonville, 06/17/2016

"Wow, what a great place!! The property description was very accurate and everything was in great working order!! They have added a couple of wooden rocking chairs on the upper porch, but we carried our own outdoor chairs which we used instead. It was a little hard to climb down the bank into the river and some steps would be nice, but can understand why the owners might not want them since there are lots of tubers and kayakers floating the river that might would try to access the property from the river. There were no neighbors around so things were very quite. My husband really enjoyed the river and did a little fishing, catching a small mouth bass. He also enjoyed the pool table on the lower level. We loved the location, but be aware there are no grocery stores nearby, so you may want to buy supplies before arriving. Basically the closest place to buy anything is West Jefferson which is about 20 miles away. (But, they have everything you'd need. Walmart, etc.) Cell phone coverage is a little sketchy depending on your provider ( we use Verizon). They do provide Wi-Fi which is great. The nearby town of West Jefferson is charming and worth a day of exploring. (Ashe Cheese Store is much more than just cheese..... You must visit while there!) We ate mostly lunch at restaurants in most all the surrounding towns and enjoyed. Be sure to check out Shatley Springs for good home cooking, Pie On the Mountain in Lansing for great pizza, and Browns Reataurant in Sparta. We also saw lots of wildlife in the surrounding areas. Overall, it was a wonderful, peaceful vacation in a beautiful, well kept cabin!!! We can't wait to return!! "

Eva B. from Red Oak, 07/19/2016

"Amazing! Will be making this cabin an annual event! "

Alan B. from Bessemer City, 08/03/2016

"We were in Piney Creek for a family reunion. The location of the reunion was only about 1 or 2 miles away. We love the view of New River. The cabin was clean and comfortable. This is our second year of renting this cabin."

Jeffery S. from Marriottsville, 08/12/2016

"My family stayed at Serendipity on the New River for three nights. We had a wonderful time. The house was clean and in great condition. We had three children with us and a dog and they all had a wonderful time playing in the river. Our children were ages 3-8 years old. The 6 and 8 year old and dog played for hours in the river. We read the reviews before going and it was apparent the owners have paid attention to past reviews because the grill worked great and there was an extra tank of gas just in case and the outside shower and hose worked. An added bonus that is not mentioned in the description of the house is a very nice fire pit with seating and plenty of wood was provided. This is a great neighborhood and house. We will definitely be back!"

Ellen B. from Wilson, 09/07/2016

"Everything about the cabin was perfect. From property management to the home to the weather. "

John C. from Carrboro, 09/13/2016

"The place was great. The location by the river makes the experience incredible. The property was very clean and cozy. We will definitely be back"

Paola S. from Salisbury, 10/29/2016

"Great weekend. Will definitely stay here again."

Caryn B. from Taylorsville, 11/08/2016

"Great experience, very clean, no hassle check in and check out. I will definitely be going back. It would have been nice if the amenities on the website had mentioned the gas grill and fire pit. We ended up bringing our own grill. Other than that I have no complaints."

Andrew J. from Fayetteville, 11/15/2016

"Very nice, clean and cozy. Will be back!"

Terry H. from Statesville, 12/27/2016

"The experience from the onset was pleasant. Every phone call and email was resolved or responded to in a timely fashion. The house was clean when we arrived, and the community was secure.

We would return to the house again! "

from newark, 03/09/2017

"Quiet, nice view! Only thing was the pool table wasn't the greatest, difficult to make some shots with structures in the way. Basement area stayed cold. "

from Henderson, 03/19/2017

"We had a very relaxing time. The house is in a great location for what we wanted. The overall appearance of the house is very nice and clean. You had everything you needed to enjoy your stay. I would note the upstair bunks are more suitable for very young children. The view from the deck is wonderful. We would definitely rent this house again and recommend it."

from Winston Salem, 05/02/2017

"Great place! Need to replace bunk beds with 2 full beds. Beds not comfortable. Will bring air mattress next time."

from Elkin, 06/13/2017

"Beautiful location on the river! House was clean and user friendly and just how it was described. Had one problem with sink draining but it was addressed quickly and the problem was solved. We slept 10 on two of the nights we stayed and it worked out great. We rented canoes and kayaks from riverside canoe across the river and they were great and convenient! We ate at Motley's BBQ one night and the food was great and reasonably priced! We could have used more bath cloth's since we did have ten people and maybe a dish cloth too. Otherwise all linens were well marked and plentiful! Pool table and hot tub were a big hit! Great place to vacation and we will recommend to friends and family!"

from Beaufort, 06/21/2017

"The house was cute, a little smaller than I had imagined, enough pots/pans and whatnot to cook what we wanted. The ac unit is probably waaaay too small for the home, the weather was quite warm and the temp inside didn't cool down til the sun went down. The pools sticks were broken, but we made use of the least broken one. Home was clean and having the river in the front yard was awesome. Neighborhood is very quiet and stargazing was amazing. Was picturing a more mountainous setting, but oh well. Check out the general store close by, nice folks with small selection of fishing supplies, groceries and candy"

from Fuquay Varina, 08/02/2017

"This is a great cabin with a view and access to the New River - the tubing station is right across the river! The cabin has everything you need for a great mountain getaway."

Andrea C. from Bradenton, 08/04/2017

"Enjoyed our stay at the cabin. View of river can't be matched."

Jeffery S. from Marriottsville, 08/10/2017

"We rented to celebrate our son's 13th birthday. He and a few friends enjoyed fishing, kayaking, swimming, tubing, the hottub outside and the pool table downstairs. The spacious front yard and fire pit was a plus for the kids to hang out! The porch was nice for gathering or just watching the river. The cabin was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed, even firewood and chairs to set around the fire pit. Really liked that linens were included and plenty of them! Great place to hang out and let time stand still while taking in nature. Would love to come back again! "

Greg E. from Taylorsville, 08/29/2017

"We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin.
It's clean, well-maintained, and comfortable.
Lovely views and quiet surroundings. "

from Youngsville, 09/13/2017

"enjoyable, comfortable without being over the top... lovely view of river and great area for kids to run and play!

could stand to update the kitchen utensils (showing signs of being used up) and overall cleanliness (could be a bit cleaner upon arrival)"

from waxhaw, 10/31/2017

"We were a little disappointed that they didn’t have a lot of channels on the tv. The outdoor flood lights were burnt out. We love staying here we rent it a couple times a year. Love the location right on the new river. "

Douglas J. from Gastonia, 02/28/2018

"Serendipity has a perfect location on the New River. This is the second time we've rented it for family reunions. The large dining table is great. The deck is fabulous. The only issue we had, which is a small one, is that there was only one cue stick for the pool table. The other two had no tip. We are not serious pool players so passing the one stick was kind of fun, but some folks might like to have at least two usable sticks. Other than that, I highly recommend this vacation rental."

Susan K. from Crumpler, 05/09/2018

"Planned this trip to the New River to kayak/canoe down the New, alas the river was too high and we couldn't rent from Riverside. We had a great time regardless. Th house is perfect for relaxing and watching the river, taking a jacuzzi, taking a walk, etc. Would be great for a family or multiple families, or just a bunch of guys hanging out!"

from Charlotte, 05/22/2018

"We love this cabin. It is very quite and restful. We have returned from previous years."

Jeffery S. from Marriottsville, 08/09/2018

"We absolutely loved where this cabin was like being in the country in the mountains. We loved we were able to go into the river easily and relax in the water. We will definitely be using this rental again. We just wished they had comfier furniture outside to relax and enjoy the view."

Jessica J. from Bennett, 08/12/2018

"Great location on the bank of the New. Close to boat/tube rentals.

Take your groceries as it is a long way out!"

from Columbia, 08/31/2018

"I'm a frequent vacationer to the mountains of NC but this was the first time I stayed in a river cabin. My vacation here with my fiance was great from the very first moment we walked into the cabin. My first impression upon walking in and seeing the property for the first time was that everything was amazingly clean. A very nice first impression!

Overall, the cabin is quite cozy and very nice. My stay here was during the winter when the weather was cold and rainy most of the time but I still enjoyed the getaway (for my birthday). Perhaps the best compliment you can give a vacation property is that I enjoyed my stay so much that while I was still there I booked another vacation for the Summer. "
