Serendipity on the New River - Piney Creek

Serendipity on the New River was everything the add promised. Beautiful cabin, great location, quiet and peaceful area. The views of the new river was perfect. Definitely recommend to everyone! The staff as Stay Blueridge was easy to work with and provided all the information we needed to be able to enjoy the place.

We had a wonderful vacation, the house was fully stocked so we brought groceries and we didn't have to leave a single time, the home itself is very beautiful as are the views, only complaint if you want to call it that was that it wasn't as secluded as we thought as the neighbors to the left are very close and were doing yard work with big machines all weekend but was still very serence and peaceful

This was our second time at Serendipity and it did not disappoint! Everything was absolutely perfect! The house is very well stocked and extremely clean! The view is spectacular and the easy access to the river with your boat is great. We fished for two straight days and caught lots of small-moth bass, red-eye rock bass and chubs. (And lots of helgrimites for bait!)

Serendipity was a great place to getaway to for our fall getaway. It was central to a lot of locations we visited. We able to be within an hours drive of things like the New River Bike Trail, Grayson Highlands, Damascus and the New River itself. The area where the cabin is has a gate road and it is very quite. The river in front of the house was a little lean on fishing, but would make for a great lazy river in the summer. The cabin itself was well furnished, maintained and everything was labeled. The staff was very professional.

Great, gated, quiet neighborhood and house. Property manager was quick to respond! Little town of West Jefferson is not far away and was quite quaint. Would like a roku or smart TV for one of the rooms for those rainy or nights

We had a great stay! The house is clean and well stocked. On a quiet street with a great yard leading right up to the New River. Great location for River activities as there is a drop in site at the end of the road or a canoe/kayak/tube rental across the river and another right down the road. We will definitely stay again!

This cabin along the river is stunning. We went in February and got some snow but look forward to coming back with our kids in the summertime. Look forward to using the fire pit. Everything was clean and definitely up to our standards. Very beautiful front deck to relax on with plenty of space and seating. We had one small issue but it was handled properly by management.

Cabin is clean. I was worried about renting one that is pet friendly (I have dogs too) since we weren’t taking ours but it did not smell of animals at all. The only thing I didn’t like was loft is right above bedroom and you can hear every little noise. Cabin had everything we needed and served it’s purpose for a quick weekend getaway.

This was a perfect getaway for our family of four and our dog. We enjoyed the open outdoor space and proximity to hikes in nearby state parks in both North Carolina and Virginia. The kitchen could stand to have some more cooking utensils and upgraded cookware and serving ware, but basics were covered and met our needs. Wifi was great for us to work and attend virtual school with no issues. The house was comfortable, and we loved the coziness of the fireplaces and the hot tub under the stars. Would definitely stay here again.

We love this place!! We have our yearly vacation here every year. The view of the new river is awesome and very relaxing. If you like tubing down the river or kayaking this is the perfect place to stay. Your close to West Jefferson is just a short drive to a nice restaurant and shopping or a visit to the cheese company is a nice break. We usually just bring our groceries and just hang out at the house. The hot tub and pool table is also some nice features. 6 years coming to this wonderful place. We had a great experience overall. The setting is beautiful, as the river is right in the back yard. We caught a few fish and we could walk to the Canoe and Tube Rental. There are no restaurants close by. Plan on 20-25 min. ride on mountain roads if you plan to eat out. Even then, some were closed during the week. The kitchen has basic appliances and utensils. The only thing I needed that wasn't provided was a pitcher for tea or beverages. The hot tub was very nice and made our stay more enjoyable. The basement had a slight musty smell but nothing we couldn't deal with. The porch is a big plus - lovely for morning coffee. There is no garbage pick up so you have to take your garbage to a collection site unless it is a Sunday or holiday. Again, overall we enjoyed a pleasant stay at Serendipity.

This is a beautiful spot with great river and outfitters so close! Stay blue ridge was so helpful when the pool sticks were broken and the gas grill tank was empty they replaced them the next day. I have never had that kind of service. The description of “sleeps 10” is a little misleading. Read about the accommodations for sleeping. There is really only one private bedroom. The upstairs bunks are made for kids and downstairs is a daybed and trundle. We were fine but just something to consider. It’s a beautiful home and any day on the river is better than a day at work! When we were leaving, they were installing a rock wall out into the river that will create a good fishing pool and allow you to walk out into the middle of the river. We will be back!

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary weekend. Upon arrival, we were impressed with how clean the cabin was. The cabin is very cozy, has a fully stocked kitchen and a beautiful view of the river. We took our canoe and were very pleased at the access to the river. We actually paddled up river to find some good fishing holes and hit the jackpot! We caught about two dozen fish each day! The house is comfortable, has a landline phone (no cell phone service), WI-FI connection and many TV stations to choose from. The hot tub was great! It felt wonderful after a day of canoeing! We used it often. The only negative we found was the pool table. (We have our own table and play often) The table is uneven, there's not enough room to shoot properly from one side and the lighting is extremely dim at night. I'm not sure of the condition of the pool sticks, as we took our own. We were a little disappointed by the pool table, but it would not keep us from staying here again by any means! We hope to be back for our anniversary next year!

Location was great! If you’re coming for the river, this is your place. Cabin was nice and clean. We used the river many times for Tubing and fishing. We brought our own tubes. We biked the Virginia creeper trail, and hiked Greyson Highlands, which I strongly suggest all 3! I have 2 complaints about our stay...the hot tub had a bad odor. It would have been a $30 charge to get someone to clean/service it. We didn’t use it the last 2 days because of the odor. Also, hot water showers were tough. We had 2 take showers, then there was no hot water for many hours. We started making sure to stagger our showers 1 hour apart. Overall, I do suggest this cabin. Loved our stay, just wished we could have gotten more use of the hot tub.

We recommend guests follow the Hot Tub rules which include shower before usage to remove any sunscreens or lotions that can affect water chemistry and potentially cause odors. This was my second stay at this very nice cabin property. The location is great with the cabin facing the New River with a large grassy area between the cabin and the river itself. Numerous locations to just walk down into the river if you want to do so, or a very short drive, ~1/2 mile, to a river outfitter to rent kayaks or tubes.

The cabin was spotless when we arrived and outfitted with all the normal cookware and other items you would expect. It has a very nice outdoor covered hot tub and a wide deck off the main level facing the river. I spent an hour or so every morning on the deck in a very comfortable rocking chair, drinking my morning coffee and watching the first kayakers and tubers drifting past on the river.

There are neighboring cabins but plenty of distance between the homes and all in all a very quiet getaway.

I'm a frequent vacationer to the mountains of NC but this was the first time I stayed in a river cabin. My vacation here with my fiance was great from the very first moment we walked into the cabin. My first impression upon walking in and seeing the property for the first time was that everything was amazingly clean. A very nice first impression!

Overall, the cabin is quite cozy and very nice. My stay here was during the winter when the weather was cold and rainy most of the time but I still enjoyed the getaway (for my birthday). Perhaps the best compliment you can give a vacation property is that I enjoyed my stay so much that while I was still there I booked another vacation for the Summer.

Planned this trip to the New River to kayak/canoe down the New, alas the river was too high and we couldn't rent from Riverside. We had a great time regardless. Th house is perfect for relaxing and watching the river, taking a jacuzzi, taking a walk, etc. Would be great for a family or multiple families, or just a bunch of guys hanging out!

Serendipity has a perfect location on the New River. This is the second time we've rented it for family reunions. The large dining table is great. The deck is fabulous. The only issue we had, which is a small one, is that there was only one cue stick for the pool table. The other two had no tip. We are not serious pool players so passing the one stick was kind of fun, but some folks might like to have at least two usable sticks. Other than that, I highly recommend this vacation rental.

We rented to celebrate our son's 13th birthday. He and a few friends enjoyed fishing, kayaking, swimming, tubing, the hottub outside and the pool table downstairs.The spacious front yard and fire pit was a plus for the kids to hang out! The porch was nice for gathering or just watching the river. The cabin was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed, even firewood and chairs to set around the fire pit. Really liked that linens were included and plenty of them! Great place to hang out and let time stand still while taking in nature. Would love to come back again!

The house was cute, a little smaller than I had imagined, enough pots/pans and whatnot to cook what we wanted. The ac unit is probably waaaay too small for the home, the weather was quite warm and the temp inside didn't cool down til the sun went down. The pools sticks were broken, but we made use of the least broken one. Home was clean and having the river in the front yard was awesome. Neighborhood is very quiet and stargazing was amazing. Was picturing a more mountainous setting, but oh well. Check out the general store close by, nice folks with small selection of fishing supplies, groceries and candy

Beautiful location on the river! House was clean and user friendly and just how it was described. Had one problem with sink draining but it was addressed quickly and the problem was solved. We slept 10 on two of the nights we stayed and it worked out great. We rented canoes and kayaks from riverside canoe across the river and they were great and convenient! We ate at Motley's BBQ one night and the food was great and reasonably priced! We could have used more bath cloth's since we did have ten people and maybe a dish cloth too. Otherwise all linens were well marked and plentiful! Pool table and hot tub were a big hit! Great place to vacation and we will recommend to friends and family!

We had a very relaxing time. The house is in a great location for what we wanted. The overall appearance of the house is very nice and clean. You had everything you needed to enjoy your stay. I would note the upstair bunks are more suitable for very young children. The view from the deck is wonderful. We would definitely rent this house again and recommend it.

My family stayed at Serendipity on the New River for three nights. We had a wonderful time. The house was clean and in great condition. We had three children with us and a dog and they all had a wonderful time playing in the river. Our children were ages 3-8 years old. The 6 and 8 year old and dog played for hours in the river. We read the reviews before going and it was apparent the owners have paid attention to past reviews because the grill worked great and there was an extra tank of gas just in case and the outside shower and hose worked. An added bonus that is not mentioned in the description of the house is a very nice fire pit with seating and plenty of wood was provided. This is a great neighborhood and house. We will definitely be back!

Wow, what a great place!! The property description was very accurate and everything was in great working order!! They have added a couple of wooden rocking chairs on the upper porch, but we carried our own outdoor chairs which we used instead. It was a little hard to climb down the bank into the river and some steps would be nice, but can understand why the owners might not want them since there are lots of tubers and kayakers floating the river that might would try to access the property from the river. There were no neighbors around so things were very quite. My husband really enjoyed the river and did a little fishing, catching a small mouth bass. He also enjoyed the pool table on the lower level. We loved the location, but be aware there are no grocery stores nearby, so you may want to buy supplies before arriving. Basically the closest place to buy anything is West Jefferson which is about 20 miles away. (But, they have everything you'd need. Walmart, etc.) Cell phone coverage is a little sketchy depending on your provider ( we use Verizon). They do provide Wi-Fi which is great. The nearby town of West Jefferson is charming and worth a day of exploring. (Ashe Cheese Store is much more than just cheese..... You must visit while there!) We ate mostly lunch at restaurants in most all the surrounding towns and enjoyed. Be sure to check out Shatley Springs for good home cooking, Pie On the Mountain in Lansing for great pizza, and Browns Reataurant in Sparta. We also saw lots of wildlife in the surrounding areas. Overall, it was a wonderful, peaceful vacation in a beautiful, well kept cabin!!! We can't wait to return!!

We love this place we have stayed here the past two years. Just a few things that would make the stay better. The cookwear is old and there isn't a lot we love to cook while we are there because we are on the river everyday. Extra seating on the porch. The only cleaning I would do is the windows the large one den and looking at the river. We love the place and enjoy it every time we stay.

This cabin on the banks of New River is perfect for keeping children happily occupied. The hot tub definitely added to the pleasure of the adults. The only drawback was the severe lack of deck furniture, which was surprising considering the incredible river view from the deck and the lower patio. We were aware of this drawback and brought some lawn chairs of our own, which were much used. I would definitely recommend this cabin and hope to rent it again in the future.

Wonderfully appointed home steps away from New River. Great community. More than acceptable views across the river. Level manicured yard to waters edge. Hot tub is under deck so could be used in winter out of elements. Back porch overlooks the river and is so close you can hear the rippling of the water.

This, my 6th stay at Serendipity, was the best yet. There is no way to visit Serendipity on the New River and not have an awesome time. We were able to appreciate our view from the living room window(s) as we gazed upon the beautiful colors of fall!!! From the cabin to the location to the amenities to unsurpassed customer service from Ashe High Country Vacations LLC... everytime we want to stay in the mountains of N.C. Serendipity is the only logical choice!!! We will be back again soon, i'm sure... I wanna stay for Thanksgiving!!!!

Everything was beautiful. The house was more than sufficient for our long weekend. The views are beautiful and were very relaxing. Loved the decor of the house and there were plenty of linens. Only suggestion is maybe to notify visitors they need to bring toilet paper and paper towels. :)

Delighted from the moment we opened the door. Cabin had all we needed. The gameroom and the hot tub were a plus. The river view was spectacular. The beds were comfortable. We are looking forward to a return stay very soon.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Serendipity on the New River. The cabin was spacious and ideally located on the banks of the New River. The view was breath taking and the amenities were in abundance...any and everything we could think of needing or wanting was right at our finger tips. We enjoyed our stay so much we booked a return vacation at this cabin in October 2013 while we were on our 2nd of 4 nights... Serendipity on the New River has made a lasting first impression!!!

No better location for bicycle riding; wild flower photography; river fishing, kayaking and tubing; and relaxing evenings on a deck with a great view. Only real drawback is limited storage space.

Lovely spot and a pretty and comfortable home. When we were there the river was pretty high and fast, so we couldn't get in the water. Fished off the banks, though, and rented kayaks at the outfitter down the street and had a beautiful 3 hour float. The house looked very clean but my son had an allergy attack when we got there and as I swept the floors I found a rather shocking amount of dog hair. No vacuum on siite but once I swept the whole house and shook all the rugs it was better. Also disliked that we had to haul out the garbage, since the dump sights were all a distance away in the opposite direction that we were traveling. Those annoyances aside, it was overall a great experience and we would love to come back.

My wife and I brought our 4 kids to get away for a few days. The cabin is absolutely gorgeous, with everything provided. The kids had plenty of room and activities to do, with the pool table, hot tub and river. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful. We plan on a return visit soon. The only recommendation we have, is an outdoor fire pit would be nice, but other wise, it is almost impossible to find anything wrong with this cabin. Thank you. We enjoyed it very much.

The house was charming and the view breathtaking! Everything was immaculately clean and well thought out. Our favorite activity was sitting on the bentwood rockers listening to the sounds of the river and birds. Our only complaint would be that we had specified that we were coming with 8 people and there had not been linen left out for the sleeper couches for the last 2 people. I found them in closets, but it would have been nice to have had them available!

The location of the cabin and yard to the river was great. My grandkids loved the pool table that was in the room downstairs because it gave them something to do at night. I was thrilled that my grandkids enjoyed playing in the water, canoeing, fishing, etc. with us adults. They were so busy doing outdoor things around the cabin that they never played their computer games at all. As a grandparent I loved to see them getting exercise, and fresh air for a change. We all had a wonderful time, and are already planning another trip right away for a few more days.
The cabin was nice but a little small for a capacity of 8-10 people. There was 2 sets of bunk beds in loft area,1 bedroom, and a sleeper sofa on main floor. The downstairs also had a sleeper sofa. We had 4 adults, and 4 grandchildren ages 3-14 and was cramped since the living area is not very large.

The cabin was extremely neat and clean. When we arrived there we could see that it was well managed and recently renovated. The chairs still had labels on and some of the bedding was still in the original packaging.

The hot tub was also clean and in excellent condition.

We chose this cabin for the location next to the river so we have something for the kids to do while we were there.

The view was beautiful and it was nice and quiet.

Pros:
- VERY CLEAN and neat
- Everything was already there (glasses, coffee filters etc.)
- Awesome location
- pool table
- hottub

Cons (and these are nice to haves)
- trash removal could be a bit easier (have to go dump it yourself in week days)
- need an outside fire pit for s'mores :)

Note: remember to print / save the email with the check-in instructions, there is no reception up there so you can't get it from your email on your phone!!

The location was perfect. Right on the river. Our dogs loved it. We rented a canoe right across the river from the house. The pool table was a hit. I will be back.

Thanks for the wonderful review. Riverside Canoeing offers tube, canoe and kayak rentals and is located just a short two minute drive from the property.

time at Serendipity
Very beautiful place on the New River. Great river view , great deck for just relaxing and watching the people float by on the river. If you want to tube the river you can get out in the front yard, Nice Hot tub to relax in..Enjoyed our stay as usual.
