- Private yet in a neighborhood
APP State of Mind is is a retreat to the mountains with views and an ideal location as a base for exploration. It's private, but not isolated, with other cabins not too far away. You are very close to the river in this neighborhood - in fact, you are close to everything but you'll feel like you are a world apart, which is just what we come to the mountains for.
The covered porches and gazebo beckon you to sit and take in the views. It's a perfect place to read with your favorite cup of tea, coffee or wine, or just sit and be with the lovely setting. Your kids will enjoy playing in the grassed yard, and all of you can take advantage of the good gravel roads in the neighborhood for walking. Everyone will enjoy an evening of S'mores around the outside fire pit!
Inside, the cabin's architecture is expansive, with vaulted ceilings and an open floor plan. In the evenings or cold weather season, the family can gather around the gas-log fireplace to play games or enjoy streaming on the smart TVs.
On the main floor there's a master bedroom a comfy King bed, and a second bedroom with a queen. Upstairs you'll find a large loft with bunk beds plus a twin, and another bathroom. Definitely room to spread out.
You can't beat this cabin's location.
You'll be 10 to 15 minutes to much of what draws people to Ashe County, including West Jefferson, a happening town with galleries, antiques, two movie theaters, shops, restaurants and festivals. In the other direction you've got Glendale Springs, with the wonderful Greenhouse Crafts Shop, plus the Northwest Trading Post for a variety of art and crafts. You can pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway there, too. Take in the famous scenic views whether you go north or south. Go north and check out Doughton Park and the historic Brinegar cabin, where you'll learn what life was like for a large family in a tiny cabin. Head south to the Moses Cone Park, with awesome trails and an arts and crafts gallery shop.
Less than 10 minutes from the cabin you can jump in the water and play at Elk Shoals, Ashe County's newest park. Or put your kayaks in near the cabin and take out at Elk Shoals, about a 3-4 hour float. If you don't have your own, you can rent canoes and kayaks from Zaloo's just north of Glendale Springs or head south toward Todd and rent from River Girl Fishing, which also rents bikes for the pleasant - and level - ride along Railroad Grade Road, which offers a 20-mile trip from Todd to Fleetwood to Todd again.
From here you are also about 30 minutes from all that Boone has to offer, another 15 beyond that to Blowing Rock with even more shops, dining and antiques.
But, we also invite you to consider time just chilling. It's your option. APP State of Mind offers it all.
Pet friendly - limit two dogs. $50 Pet Fee per dog.

Recent Reviews About This Property
"We spent a great 6 days exploring the West Jefferson area and loved our time in the App state of mind cabin. Love the fire pit and all the amenities in the cabin. We will certainly be back."
"This cabin was exactly what we were looking for. We purchased land in West Jefferson and needed a place to stay while we were closing and finalizing details. This place was actually cheaper than the Holiday Inn and had everything you could need to enjoy yourself. Fully stocked with all amenities othet than food. Its a great place and we wil be staying again!"
"The cabin was gorgeous and the location was beautiful, although a bit hard to get to if you are not use to mountain dirt roads. The sketchy part is only the last bit off the main road and up to the cabin.
The cabin was spotless and had pretty much all the basic household items you would need. The layout was also great for the 6 of us. Even the mattresses were very comfortable and the internet worked surprisingly well. Overall great experience and the cabin is super cozy and comfortable.
The only issues we had which stop it from being 5 stars in my opinion was more to do with some of the policies. First, although the house is amazingly well stocked, they only left like half a roll of toilet paper, with 6 people arriving late, we had some tp hunger games going on that first night/morning until we could get to the store. Secondly you have to haul your trash like 30min away. If you go into the town where the dump is everyday its probably not an issue. However we did not, so we ended up with a lot of garbage on checkout day which was a bit of a pain to go dump it and come back (we didn't all fit with our luggage and garbage) all while also trying to pack up and checkout by 11am.
Other than that we had a great time and would return, but would plan to bring some tp with us and manage our garbage dumping trips better."
"This gem was a perfeft break for our family. We traveled with two boys under 10 and grandparents. The kids loved the bunk beds, riding the road up the mountain and all the left over snow! We were able to play more on the hill outside the cabin then anything else. All the tubing in the area was sold out and this property kept our crowd from being very dissapointed!
We absolutely loved the firepit sitting area. It is very well placed on the top of the hill. You are able to see all the mountains surrounded the cabin in the distance. Usually the firepit is just on the same level ground as the house and surrounded by trees. Whoever desiged this layout knew what they were doing!
The cabin itself was better stocked with pots, pans, seasonings, and other daily necessities than we had expected. The house was very clean and fresh smelling. The cabin itself was small but had a great layout to accomidate 6 people. We abosolutely loved our stay and will keep this location in mind in the future! "
"We couldn't have been more pleased with this property, and the pictures don't do it justice! It felt totally secluded and super quiet, but not far off the highway. It was clean as a whistle, stocked with everything we could have needed and more, and super comfortable. The views are beautiful, with great long-range views (in the winter at least) from the fire pit area that aren't pictured. The gas fireplace was so warm we hardly even used the heat. We got snow while we were there (at least 7") and they even provided shovels and salt for the steps/drive. I will say that while we do not have a 4 wheel drive, we did get snow chains for the drive down the mountain. I'm not sure we would have been comfortable driving up to the cabin in the snow without a 4x4, but luckily we had no plans to leave so the chains were enough to drive down no problem. Can't wait to come back."
"loved it. awsome view nice quiet gave us lots of family time"
"Overall a wonderful trip. There was a horrible problem with flies in the cabin. There were dozens of flies in the house. They kept coming in one of the upper windows. They were also all over the outside of the house near that window."
"This is a great cabin with an excellent view. I would recommend it to anyone. Very private and peaceful. The property is well maintained and clean. The staff at Stay Blue Ridge was so helpful. They are very good at what they do. Thanks!"
"House was clean and had everything you could need in case you forget anything. Close to most towns you want to visit in the mountians."
"Cute and very clean cabin with everything we needed, more than expected. Enjoyed sitting on the deck after a fun day exploring the area. Only negative was the long and curvey one-lane road to the cabin."
"We had a wonderful time at our vacation rental. It was peaceful and cozy. We all loved the property. I would also like to give praise to the wonderful lady that was cleaning our cabin. We arrived at the cabin at 4:14p and they sweet lady was there still cleaning. She apologized for taking so long to clean the cabin. From our understanding the cabin was in a rough state from the previous vacationers. Once she was done cleaning and we were able to go in the cabin it was very clean. She done a wonderful job. "
"Everything about this property is in excellent condition. We never lacked for anything; all items seemed new or nearly new. Porches were super comfortable as were the common areas. The beds were amazing! Kitchen was very complete - and we used it every day since we planned on staying put. The layout of the entire cabin is very logical.
The one issue to be aware of, though, if you have a low-lying car: the property is 1.5 miles off of the highway, on gravel mountain roads. We came in an SUV which was zero problem.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat."
"This was a great week of peace and relaxation in a beautiful setting."
"We loved the rental house! It was up the mountain, mostly away from other houses and people. It was very clean, nice/comfy furniture with room for all of us, very comfortable beds, a well appointed kitchen. Highly recommend this home - we loved our stay there.
"So peaceful and relaxing!"
