You’ve entered App State of Mind, your new exploration base in the High Country. Located just 10 minutes from downtown West Jefferson and only 5 minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway, you can hike, bike, swim, shop, and more—just follow where adventure calls. Bring the family, bring the dogs, bring the whole crew.
Sleeping arrangements: Sleeps 7. The primary bedroom on the main level features a king bed. A second bedroom on the main level has a queen bed, while upstairs is a large loft with a bunk bed and a separate twin bed (perfect for kids!).
Main level: Expansive log-cabin-style architecture wraps you in a wooden interior that’s as cozy as it is exquisite, with vaulted ceilings and an open floor plan. Gather around the gas-log fireplace to play games and watch your favorite films. Stay connected everywhere, whether you are relaxing in the great room or cooking in the kitchen.
Upper level: The upper-level loft is the kid zone, complete with its own bathroom. Send them up to play games, or when you need some alone time.
App State of Mind comes with WiFi, AC, and streaming-enabled TVs.
All Stay Blue Ridge vacation rentals include a complimentary starter pack with soaps, one roll of toilet paper per bathroom, a roll of paper towels in the kitchen, dishwasher pods, and trash bags.
Head outside onto the covered deck, complete with a swinging bench and a sparkling hot tub.
Steps away from the deck is a gazebo and an outdoor stairway leading to a fire pit, both picturesque spots for reading in the daytime and stargazing at night.
This cabin is right by the South Fork of the New River, so make sure to bring your swimsuits and watershoes when visiting during the warm months.
Positioned within 10 to 15 minutes of all the biggest attractions in Ashe County, you can’t beat this cabin’s location. Downtown West Jefferson is home to a colorful array of galleries, antique shops, restaurants, and festivals (such as the annual Christmas in July Festival, which draws hundreds of visitors each year). Restaurants like Red Dog Bar & Bistro offer excellent food in a casual dining setting, while breweries like New River Brewery and Boondocks offer you a taste of the High Country’s best local beers. Also nearby is the quaint community of Glendale Springs, where you can visit the wonderfully creative Greenhouse Crafts Shop and the Glendale Springs Inn & Restaurant.
Spending time outdoors is easy in this area. Multiple access points of the Blue Ridge Parkway are close by, where you have endless options for hiking and sightseeing. Some of the best parkway stops near your rental include Doughton Park and its historic Brinegar cabin, as well as Moses Cone Park further down near Boone.
Speaking of Boone, you just have to take a trip up to the college town while you’re here. Home to Appalachian State University and Appalachian Ski Mountain, Boone offers year-round fun. Head to a football game in the fall, hit the slopes in the winter, or just peruse the many shops and boutiques at any time of the year. The village of Blowing Rock is only 15 minutes from downtown Boone, so hop over there while you are in Boone to find even more unique shops, restaurants, and parks.
Less than 10 minutes from your cabin is Elk Shoals, one of the many New River State Park access points. Mosey on down to the park to take a dip in the water, or put your canoes or kayaks in near the cabin and float down to Elk Shoals that way. If you don’t have your own equipment, stop by one of the many local outfitters to rent boats and check out different sections of the New River.
Pet Policy: Dogs welcome, two-dog limit. Must be leash and crate trained, two years or older, and 45lbs or less. $50 per pet, nonrefundable.
Access: The cabin is located off NC-163, making it easily accessible from paved roads. We recommend 4WD or AWD when traveling in the winter.

We stayed here for my daughter's wedding. It was a very busy weekend so we did not have much time to really enjoy this peaceful cabin. I will say, it was very clean, well stocked, well decorated and the beds were very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.- Gloria , Posted: 09/04/2025
We thoughly enjoyed our week in west Jefferson. This little cabin was so peaceful and very clean. We could not have asked for anything betterā¤ļø- Diane , Posted: 06/24/2025
This home has become our regular stop while visiting W Jefferson and overseeing our home being built in the area. The location is perfect for us as we have friends that live on the same mountain. The home is always very clean and stocked with the basic necessities. It is dog friendly but does not smell like "dog". There is plenty of yard to explore, a fire pit, gazebo and a hot tub. I would recommend this home to anyone wanting to visit W Jeffererson as it is close enough to town without being "in town".- Randi , Posted: 03/26/2025
Loved the Cabin, especially with the River access at the bottom of the hill.- Bubba , Posted: 07/08/2024
We enjoyed our stay. The house was great and would stay again. It was not too far from attractions. The peace and quiet was wonderful. Thank you- Mia , Posted: 05/21/2024
Such a cute little cabin with a huge second floor loft! It was the perfect getaway spot. The hot tub was such a nice winter touch. We miss it already!- Sarah , Posted: 12/17/2023
We’ve always enjoyed staying at App State of Mind cabin (our 3rd time)not only for the beautiful view, but that this cabin is pet friendly and is very conveniently located to West Jefferson. We enjoyed making S’mores by the fire pit, relaxing in the hot tub and lounging in the gazebo and the porch swingšā¤ļø Highly recommend this cabin especially during the Fall season šš- Kim , Posted: 10/23/2023
We really enjoyed our stay! Well kept house, beautiful views, and cute town! Will be back for sure.- Haven , Posted: 09/04/2023
We loved the App State of Mind cabin! The layout was perfect and we enjoyed the location. This was an excellent cabin and we have every intention of staying here again!- Shannon , Posted: 08/20/2023
The cabin had a beautiful view and was clean and comfortable. It was nice to have a binder full of places to go visit and there was plenty to do around. We loved our stay and highly recommended.- Charity , Posted: 04/26/2023
App State of Mind was everything it said it would be. From the view to the hot tub and fire pit, it was amazing! It is off the main road and I would imagine conditions on the gravel road could make it difficult to reach the house, but thankfully there wasn’t inclement weather while we visited. The kitchen was fully stocked with cooking pots, pans and dish ware. The beds were comfortable and it was close to town, yet felt miles away from it! I would go back for sure.- Jennifer , Posted: 04/21/2023
Enjoyed our stay. Nice cabin in a quiet setting. We were able to relax and rest!!

What a great escape into the high country. Stayed 10 days through Christmas and a really cold winter storm -28 a few nights and snow. Gas fire place kept it cozy and nice. Beds were very comfortable, the cabin organized and was clean. Thankfully affordable for a family these days. We have booked several local cabins with Stay Blue Ridge in 2022 trying to find property. We have had a wonderful experience every time. All the properties have been very nice, clean, affordable, most of all the staff is very accommodating. Thanks again look forward to coming back soon to such a awesome town.- Jason , Posted: 01/06/2023
We enjoyed staying at this cabin for the 2nd time & got to enjoy the hot tub this year! This relaxing cabin has all the amenities with such a beautiful view! Will definitely return!- Kim , Posted: 10/13/2022
App State of Mind was a wonderful place to stay, a true gem. The proximity to downtown West Jefferson and the Blue Ridge Parkway was perfect. We loved our stay, and we would rent again in a heartbeat if we are in the area. The staff at Stay Blue Ridge was great as well. We extended our stay twice, and they were extremely helpful in doing that.- Kevin , Posted: 10/03/2022
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the App State of Mind cabin in West Jefferson. Not only was the cabin a great place to stay, the area was just great. Lots to do and some great places to eat.- Phillip , Posted: 08/28/2022
Reasonable price and lovely property. The road up to property is steep though. Nice and quiet with no close neighbors. Just relaxing and peaceful.- Trish , Posted: 08/23/2022
Beautiful property. Well kept. Peaceful. We loved everything about it. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.- Bryan , Posted: 07/14/2022
This was our first time in this area and we chose it mostly for the cabin which had room for our family of 6. To our pleasant surprise, we were situated in the perfect location to enjoy West Jefferson, the New River and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We loved exploring all the area had to offer and then coming back to our sweet cabin to sit in the hot tub and make s’mores. We made so many wonderful memories here and already can’t wait to come back!- Avery , Posted: 07/12/2022
What a beautiful home located in the mtns just 15 mins to Downtown West Jefferson. The place was big, clean , easy check in with exceptional communication. The views are amazing, hot tub we used in the evening which was easy to use and very clean. The house had all the amenities so we were able to cook our meals after our hikes and enjoy on the one of several chairs, swings , porches throughout the property. Thank you and we will most certainly be back! Lisa and Ray Jeanne and Grover- Lisa , Posted: 06/08/2022
Quiet, private, and relaxing place to stay. Very well kept property. We really enjoyed the hot tub, corn hole, and fire pit. The cabin was extremely clean and very well stocked with daily necessities. The driveway is steep, but if my minivan can make it, anyone can.- Myranda , Posted: 04/23/2022
Clean and spacious cabin with breathtaking views and plenty of amenities! Great hidden gem and hope to visit again soon!- Karla , Posted: 04/18/2022
App State was great! The cabin was perfect for our family and had everything we needed. We loved that the place was kid and dog friendly. Grocery stores were a short drive away if we needed anything. We had a great stay and hope to visit again!- Julie , Posted: 03/15/2022
Quiet and private, just what we needed. The home was very clean and stocked with everything you would need. Even though you are tucked in the mountain it's only a short 10 minutes to my favorite little town. Thank you for sharing your gem with us.- Tiffany , Posted: 12/05/2021
Cabin was very clean upon arrival and well maintained. Property is a little less than a mile up a gravel road and nicely tucked away in the mountain. It was very quiet and peaceful… nice place to sit on the porch in the morning and watch the deer pass through. The fire pit area was nice too and the kids loved playing cornhole in the driveway. They also loved having their own loft upstairs and playing the board games. The beds and furniture were very comfortable as well. Would stay here again.- Kristi , Posted: 08/19/2021
My husband and I needed a little getaway. West Jefferson is our favorite place. The cabin provided just what we were looking for. It was private and we were able to take in the beauty of our surroundings and even take our dog, Liebe on nice walks. She love her stay also. We visited one of our favorite places, Ashe County Cheese! We brought back goodies for everyone. The cabin was very clean and did not disappoint. We enjoyed the hot tub and utilized the grill. My husband raved over the grill. He loves to cook on charcoal. He cooked the best t-bones. This cabin was centrally from all of our favorite places. We enjoyed our entire stay. If you get a chance, soak in the little town of West Jefferson. The Hillbilly Grill and Boondocks were amazing. We are back home now and can’t wait till our next visit. I give the location and cabin a five- star rating.- Carolyn , Posted: 08/02/2021
This was our second time renting this cabin and each time we stay if just gets better. Hope to make it back again next year. We have been coming to this area for over 15 years for vacation and love it. Every time we come to the area we always find something new we truly enjoy.- Vanna , Posted: 08/01/2021
The inside was very clean and cozy throws felt soooo good for porch time. The back porch & hot tub cover were dusty (maybe from cornhole game??), but we were pleased with our stay. Steep road up from the highway, but my Nissan Sentra made it in low gear. Thanks for sharing your cabin!- Dixie , Posted: 07/28/2021
Wow...Not much more to say than that. This was a PERFECT cabin for our family! Everything was amazing. I MISS IT! Cabin was spotless, beds and couches were super comfy (love that four of the seats recline), internet had great connection, and there was the perfect amount of space for us to spread out a little, but still be together. We enjoyed using the fire pit to hang out, make s'mores, play games, and enjoy a glass (or two) of wine. The indoor fireplace was used A LOT (especially those first couple of days/nights when we had some snow flurries) and we occasionally fought over who got to sit on the end of the couch closest to it. The kitchen had absolutely everything I needed to cook and I was able to easily and comfortably make several meals. The view and walk along down the neighborhood road/river was beautiful and peaceful. We barely saw anyone driving in or out during our 4 night stay (so quiet). The strings lights off the loft and on the gazebo just made my teenage daughter's heart so happy (she loves those lights)! The area was gorgeous and we visited The Dan'l Boone Inn for dinner one night (a must visit for our family when staying anywhere nearby), stopped at Ashe County Cheese, enjoyed an escape room & apothecary at Great Southern Gothic (SO FUN!), enjoyed some hiking at the Mount Jefferson State Natural Area (the Mountain Ridge Trail is NO JOKE, but totally worth it!), saw some amazing views along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and stopped in at the New River State Park (Elk Shoals) for some river/water fun (just the toes...). We also just chilled a little - and we were ok with that! We had more we wanted to do/see, but "so much to do, so little time". If I absolutely HAD to find something wrong, it was that the "Dining Pass" mentioned in the welcome binder was not on the fridge so we didn't get to use that (which would have been nice), but that is literally me grasping for something to "complain" about. Trust me, you won't be disappointed if you stay here! :)- Kaitlyn , Posted: 04/23/2021
Went up for a long weekend. Great cabin get away and nice and quiet location. Definitely going back. Nice area on large front or back porch, and fire pit up the hill with plenty of seating. Large parking area for larger vehicles a plus, drive to the property is smaller, but it's the mountains.- Jason , Posted: 04/16/2021
We spent a great 6 days exploring the West Jefferson area and loved our time in the App state of mind cabin. Love the fire pit and all the amenities in the cabin. We will certainly be back.- Randall B from High point, NC, Posted: 03/17/2021
This cabin was exactly what we were looking for. We purchased land in West Jefferson and needed a place to stay while we were closing and finalizing details. This place was actually cheaper than the Holiday Inn and had everything you could need to enjoy yourself. Fully stocked with all amenities othet than food. Its a great place and we wil be staying again!- Travis E from Fuquay-Varina, NC, Posted: 03/09/2021
The cabin was gorgeous and the location was beautiful, although a bit hard to get to if you are not use to mountain dirt roads. The sketchy part is only the last bit off the main road and up to the cabin.
The cabin was spotless and had pretty much all the basic household items you would need. The layout was also great for the 6 of us. Even the mattresses were very comfortable and the internet worked surprisingly well. Overall great experience and the cabin is super cozy and comfortable.
The only issues we had which stop it from being 5 stars in my opinion was more to do with some of the policies. First, although the house is amazingly well stocked, they only left like half a roll of toilet paper, with 6 people arriving late, we had some tp hunger games going on that first night/morning until we could get to the store. Secondly you have to haul your trash like 30min away. If you go into the town where the dump is everyday its probably not an issue. However we did not, so we ended up with a lot of garbage on checkout day which was a bit of a pain to go dump it and come back (we didn't all fit with our luggage and garbage) all while also trying to pack up and checkout by 11am.
Other than that we had a great time and would return, but would plan to bring some tp with us and manage our garbage dumping trips better.- Ramon V from Boynton Beach, FL, Posted: 03/04/2021
This gem was a perfeft break for our family. We traveled with two boys under 10 and grandparents. The kids loved the bunk beds, riding the road up the mountain and all the left over snow! We were able to play more on the hill outside the cabin then anything else. All the tubing in the area was sold out and this property kept our crowd from being very dissapointed!
We absolutely loved the firepit sitting area. It is very well placed on the top of the hill. You are able to see all the mountains surrounded the cabin in the distance. Usually the firepit is just on the same level ground as the house and surrounded by trees. Whoever desiged this layout knew what they were doing!
The cabin itself was better stocked with pots, pans, seasonings, and other daily necessities than we had expected. The house was very clean and fresh smelling. The cabin itself was small but had a great layout to accomidate 6 people. We abosolutely loved our stay and will keep this location in mind in the future!- Jacqueline S from Charleston, SC, Posted: 01/30/2021
We couldn't have been more pleased with this property, and the pictures don't do it justice! It felt totally secluded and super quiet, but not far off the highway. It was clean as a whistle, stocked with everything we could have needed and more, and super comfortable. The views are beautiful, with great long-range views (in the winter at least) from the fire pit area that aren't pictured. The gas fireplace was so warm we hardly even used the heat. We got snow while we were there (at least 7") and they even provided shovels and salt for the steps/drive. I will say that while we do not have a 4 wheel drive, we did get snow chains for the drive down the mountain. I'm not sure we would have been comfortable driving up to the cabin in the snow without a 4x4, but luckily we had no plans to leave so the chains were enough to drive down no problem. Can't wait to come back.- Jason C from Little River, SC, Posted: 01/12/2021
loved it. awsome view nice quiet gave us lots of family time- Jessica B from Summerfield, FL, Posted: 11/30/2020
Overall a wonderful trip. There was a horrible problem with flies in the cabin. There were dozens of flies in the house. They kept coming in one of the upper windows. They were also all over the outside of the house near that window.- Anonymous from Winnabow, NC, Posted: 11/27/2020
This is a great cabin with an excellent view. I would recommend it to anyone. Very private and peaceful. The property is well maintained and clean. The staff at Stay Blue Ridge was so helpful. They are very good at what they do. Thanks!- Anonymous from SHALLOTTE, NC, Posted: 10/28/2020
House was clean and had everything you could need in case you forget anything. Close to most towns you want to visit in the mountians.- Brian L from Morehead City, NC, Posted: 10/16/2020
Cute and very clean cabin with everything we needed, more than expected. Enjoyed sitting on the deck after a fun day exploring the area. Only negative was the long and curvey one-lane road to the cabin.- Anonymous from SOUTHPORT, NC, Posted: 10/03/2020
We had a wonderful time at our vacation rental. It was peaceful and cozy. We all loved the property. I would also like to give praise to the wonderful lady that was cleaning our cabin. We arrived at the cabin at 4:14p and they sweet lady was there still cleaning. She apologized for taking so long to clean the cabin. From our understanding the cabin was in a rough state from the previous vacationers. Once she was done cleaning and we were able to go in the cabin it was very clean. She done a wonderful job.- Jolie M from MARSHALL, NC, Posted: 08/04/2020
Everything about this property is in excellent condition. We never lacked for anything; all items seemed new or nearly new. Porches were super comfortable as were the common areas. The beds were amazing! Kitchen was very complete - and we used it every day since we planned on staying put. The layout of the entire cabin is very logical.
The one issue to be aware of, though, if you have a low-lying car: the property is 1.5 miles off of the highway, on gravel mountain roads. We came in an SUV which was zero problem.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat.- Greg M from Raleigh, NC, Posted: 07/28/2020
This was a great week of peace and relaxation in a beautiful setting.- Anonymous from Southport, NC, Posted: 07/20/2020
We loved the rental house! It was up the mountain, mostly away from other houses and people. It was very clean, nice/comfy furniture with room for all of us, very comfortable beds, a well appointed kitchen. Highly recommend this home - we loved our stay there.
