Bird's Nest Cabin has Daniel Boone charm but with all the amenities of modern life plus, unlike some cabins, lots of light with a bright interior. Gorgeous wide-board pine floors reflect the light! Central to the cabin is a real stone fireplace that burns wood instead of gas so you can enjoy cozy evenings on chilly days in front of a real fire with a glass of wine, a good book, watching a movie, or playing games.
The cabin's kitchen is spacious with granite counters as well as an island. If you like to cook while on vacation, then you'll enjoy plenty of counter space. And if you like to dine outside, there's expansive decking complete with a hot tub, table and seating for four to enjoy the natural surroundings.
Bird's Nest offers 1 large bedroom upstairs with a queen-sized bed, and a twin daybed downstairs. The bathroom is on the main floor and features an antique sideboard creatively converted to a vanity. On the main level you'll also find the large kitchen, complete with granite counters as well as an island, a dining area and the living room.
Bird's Nest Cabin is in a neighborhood with plenty of walkable roads and trails, including along the river. Watch for birds, deer, wild turkey and if you are lucky, perhaps you'll spot a bobcat. The cabin is dog-friendly for Fido, if he or she is less than about 25 pounds. There's plenty of yard for your dog to run around, and a clip-on dog run if you want to give your pup a bit of a sense of freedom.
You'll either find Bird's Nest is the perfect place to nest and rest, or an ideal spot from which to explore the area.
Location, Location, Location
That's the mantra in real estate, and it applies to vacation cabins, too. This cabin is only 10-minutes from West Jefferson, which means you don't have to go far to enjoy the many things the town has to offer. For dining, visit our old favorites like Boondocks and the Hotel Tavern but now you've got the Craft Bistro as well as New River Brewing. Some of these offer music, as does Trent's Tavern. For lunches you've got some of those same places, plus Smoky Mountain BBQ, Rosebud Café, Sweet and Savory Café and the Havana Café, just to name a few of your choices.
And did anyone say "Shopping?" West Jefferson offers a delightful mix of shops, galleries and antique stores! On the second Friday of every month, you'll enjoy the Gallery Crawl from 5 to 8 pm, June through October, plus the first Friday in December. And every Saturday morning, check out the produce, plants, crafts and art offered on the Backstreet at the Farmer's Market. Come the holidays, you can check out the work of a crew of artists on Thanksgiving weekend at the Florence Thomas Art School - or consider taking a class there yourself! Materials are included, so you can try on something new without a lot of investment.
Just beyond the neighborhood, only minutes away, you'll find access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and can head North to Doughton Park (and this historic Brinegar cabin) or south to the Moses Cone Park. Shop going north at the Northwest Trading Post, or at the Moses Cone Park at the crafts center. Either direction will amaze you with the views.
Or head to Mount Jefferson on the way into West Jefferson and check out the mountain ridges of Ashe County and beyond from the several lookouts as well as take a hike on one of the trails. Not too far from the cabin you'll also find Ashe County's newest park - Elk Shoals, with great river access, a perfect spot to bring the kids.
If you want to visit Boone, you'll get to downtown in less than 40 minutes. Blowing Rock is just a bit farther beyond.
$50 fee per pet.

Recent Reviews About This Property
"Cozy cabin located 10 minutes for West Jefferson. Quiet location and pet friendly. Great place to relax and unplug. Would love to have had access to the hot tub, but it is not operable. "
Response from StayBlueRidge:Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and was able to relax. The hot tub is a new addition not yet being advertised at this awesome property and is currently in the process of being properly installed. Weather conditions have caused some delays with the installation, but it should be up and running very soon for future guest.
"Our was great. Would visit again. Overall the rental was clean and filled with yesteryear memo biliary takes you back in time. We had a great 42 Nd wedding anniversary. Would definitely visit again. It was convenient to West Jefferson and Jefferson. "
"The cabin was beautiful and the scenery was nice the deer in the yard was nice to watch in the evening, the only downfall was the home across the road was very junkie and at times was tight getting in and out of the driveway."
"Birds nest was a nice, clean cabin with modern amenities. It's hard to find a antique mountain cabin with central heat and a/c. It's perfect for 2.Comes with a gas grill, and gas fire pit on deck. Nice wood burning FP. The bed was comfy. Close easy 10 minute drive into downtown West Jefferson, and 5-10 minutes to a parkway entrance.
"The cabin was well appointed and quite comfortable for a couple. Perhaps one more person could have fit in, but i would recommend it for a couple. Only issue we had was the shower water control was a bit temperamental."
"We wanted to be close to West Jefferson yet have a pleasant area to walk our corgi. This vrbo met those two needs. Easy access to Parkway. Property was clean and tidy and plenty of outdoor lighting. Indoor lighting was adequate but was poor especially in the living room/dining area, even though there were adequate wall outlets. In the evenings you can watch TV or be on your computer but reading a book enjoying a meal requires more lighting than was available. Deck is nice and large and secure to allow pets free reign. Also, there were a total of seven spoons. As others have remarked, there's a lot of pillows and decor that occupy most of the horizontal surfaces."
Response from StayBlueRidge:We regret to hear that not all of your needs were met during stay at our Bird?s Nest Log Cabin. As the property managers if you would have contacted us while you were here we could have been glad to brought you some extra lamps to supplement your lighting needs during the evening hours. We would have also been glad to have brought out extra silverware. We strive very hard to keep our the kitchens of our properties well stocked, but from time to time items go missing that we are not made aware of. We do appreciate you taking the time to leave us some feedback so that we can make our guest experiences great ones.
"This log cabin is a gem! It is cozy, super comfortable, beautifully decorated, and, well-appointed. It had everything we needed. The setting was quiet and lovely ~ our own private mountain getaway. The antique log construction is amazing, and we were blown away by the restoration including all the modern amenities. It is obvious how much the owner/s love this property. We loved it so much, too, that we couldn't resist leaving a little token of appreciation that we found at an antique shop in Boone. We hope to stay there again soon!"
