We enjoyed our stay. The home was clean, comfortable and very close to great hiking at the state park. The house has a great wrap around deck from which we enjoyed great weather. Very fun location.

We enjoyed our brief mountain get away last week even though it was a bit on the cold side. The Kapena cabin was very comfortable with a bedroom on each of 3 levels. The snowy outdoor landscape around the cabin was beautiful. My grandson and I went on an awesome fly fishing expedition one day when it warmed up into the 40's with a very good guide from Due South Outfitters in Boone. They provided waders all the gear we needed. Even though the trout stocking of streams had been disrupted by the hurricane we caught several native rainbow trout. The Bohemia coffee shop and New River Brewing pub / restaurant are just short drive away. Ingles, our favorite grocery store is not far away as well.

Very nice cabin in quiet gated community with pastoral setting near a pond. The cabin was very comfortable, clean and well stocked. The 3 bedrooms are each on separate levels with their own bathroom. The location is within a short drive of West Jefferson so very convenient to any necessities.

My family has been coming to the mountains every year for approximately 10-years. We found this unit 7 years ago and have stayed every year except one. The location is great and the view from the back deck is lovely. The 3 levels serve our family well. If all goes well we will be back.

Our family enjoyed Kapena Escape so much! It was the perfect place for our family of 5 to stay! Our oldest son and his wife stayed on the lower level and had their own little unit! My husband loved being able to walk down and fish. My favorite was rocking on the back deck and enjoying the peace & quiet. We used the fire pit to make yummy s'mores and memories! First of all, we have stayed in a couple of houses in Canawhay and have had a great experience in all of them. Kapena was great! Not as large as the others which was fine. VERY CLEAN! Well appointed for our small group just a very comfortable and peaceful place to spend a week. We will be coming back!

This house was the perfect getaway for my family of 5. The views from the porch and the pond so the kids could fish was awesome! We had the absolute best time! I do have two recommendations, first I would highly recommend updating the upstairs bed. The mattress is horrible and I ended up having to sleep on the couch most of the stay. Secondly, a nice eating area on the deck would be great. The little picnic table there was extremely wobbly! But we will definitely be back in the future! Thanks!

Everything was lovely here. We saw wildlife just about everyday we were there. So close to town for a bite to eat, groceries or just to shop. Also close to the parkway to drive for the day. Would definitely book again!

As a group of 6 adults and 4 children ranging in age from 4 to 72 we had a wonderful time. The house was roomy and clean. The back porch was used extensively drinking coffee and enjoying the great view. The pond was a bonus as we fished and viewed the geese who were very entertaining.We would (and probably will) visit again. We had a great time.

We had a very nice stay. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking in. The gated community is nice but not very private. The main bedroom upstairs needs more blinds. Two of the four windows are not covered and sleeping in past sunrise is tough. Plenty of room for all. We enjoyed our stay. Would rent again.

Pros - Great view from the deck, hot tub! Gated community with few homes and rolling hills! We spent most of the time sitting outside. Good size rooms and bathrooms , we were 2 families but 3 small families will be fine as well. Cons- wish the house was not so much furnished especially living room and kitchen. Rest of the house especially bedrooms are tastefully decorated with quality stuff. Overall, we would love to come back!!

This property far exceeded expectations. We had a wonderful stay. It was just my spouse and I, with a brief visit by our daughter (App State student). However there would have been plenty of room for several friends or family members here. The photos do not do this cabin justice. It was inviting, comfortable and peaceful. The secure community is quiet and truly lovely. We will definitely stay here again.

Did you have a good overall stay?
Yes, it was a good ones vacations, really nice. Beautiful place, wonderful cabin.

I just have to say That They have sofa bed but is not comfortable, you have to count with that, They also have 3 people sleep in a king bed but it is not comfortable.

Was the vacation rental in a great location?
Yes, the place is wonderful! We love it, also is a gate community

Was the home clean and in good shape?
Yes, everything good, you can take your sheets if you want, you have to take napkins, garbage bag, dish soap, wash sponge.

Was the vacation rental management staff helpful?
All good.

This rental was located in a very nice gated community with quick access to West Jefferson and Jefferson. Nice scenery and wildlife. The cabin was clean, neat and cozy for the family. A nice place to stay and would highly recommend.

We stayed here for a long weekend including six adults and three children. The location was nice and as advertised. Had a problem with heat when we arrived, but management was responsive and had the problem corrected fairly quickly. The location was quiet and close to West Jefferson, which we enjoyed exploring. We rode the Virginia Creeper Trail--highly recommended--about an hour's drive away.
The hot tub was nice, and kids enjoyed fishing in the pond and making s'mores. Would definitely recommend this house and location.

What a beautiful place to stay in up in the mountain. It has a lake to fish in. There is a nearby river where you can canoe. We love the Ashe Cheese factory. They make really good cheese. They make all varieties of flavored cheese. We will definitely coming back.

Kapena Escape was just right for our girl's weekend. It's in a beautiful area with downtown West Jefferson not too far away, as well as hiking at Mount Jefferson. The property management was responsive about an emergency on Saturday. If you need to use the futons, I'd recommend bringing some padding for them, or just bringing an air mattress because they're not very comfortable. Overall, we had a fabulous stay and would stay here again!

Kapena House was perfectly located to Jefferson, the Parkway, and other surrounding areas. The neighborhood is quiet and gorgeous. The home is well laid out, and comfortable. I would only recommend another mixing bowl in the kitchen, and a 9x13 pyrex casserole dish. There were plenty of utensils and good knives. There was also good pantry and cabinet space for food to be stored. One particular added bonus were the thermostats on each level. The weather turned cold, and we all stayed comfortable. We all had a great time.

We rented this cabin as a combination of a place to stay close enough for our daughter's graduation event @ Appalachian State University & a family reunion gathering for our extended family. This place is far enough from Boone (40 minutes) to avoid crowds, we ate dinner in West Jefferson, there was no overflow from graduation weekend that I could see. During the weekend, we had between 8-12 people staying, enough space so no one felt cramped & could find comfortable sleeping arrangements. Although it rained off and on, we spent a lot of time on the covered back porch. There are two driveways that have plenty of parking, at peak we had 5 cars. I would definitely stay again.

Me and about 6 friends/family members came up for a 2 night stay. The rental was very clean and the staff was wonderful with all the help. I can say the pictures does not do any Justice to how beautiful this place. It rained majority of our 2 days there so the hot tub and fire pit was out the question. But it would've been nice to have a covering over the tub so it could be used even in a light rain. Also, we couldn't get the TV's to work properly. The one downstairs the remote only change the input so we had to watch one channel. However, the was plenty of space for everyone and we all had a great time. I've already been recommending this place to others. And started planning another cabin trip. Thank you guys so much.

6 Girls get a weekend away and we booked this cabin. We all work together at a salon and decided to have a weekend getaway. This is the 3rd cabin we’ve rented through Ashe County Realty and we’ve loved every one. I just called Judy to send me some cabins to choose from and we picked this one. Great company to rent from because I like to personally speak to someone so I can ask questions. We arrived Friday and didn’t leave the cabin until Sunday at checkout. The views are beautiful and it’s quiet. We enjoyed the rest and relaxation along with the hot tub time. We were surprised the TV had Netflix and thought that was a nice thing to provide for their guest. We will definitely be back.

We take an annual trip to the mountains each year and have stayed in a variety of rental properties. This was one of the best. Plenty of room. Well equipped kitchen. Entire house was very clean (I am one to notice dust on light fixtures etc and take note). Bonus was that we were able to bring our older dogs with us. At their age it is caused them great anxiety to be boarded when we need to travel and so this was a perfect solution.

Kapena escape was a great place to stay for our family . We especially enjoyed the easy acces to the river , as we love to kayak and tube . The cabin was clean and very comfortable with beautiful views. The only drawback was that the property was advertised to be on a lake and it was a pond . We were looking forward to the use of the lake for our boys . We also had planned to Fish ,as had been advertised . Once we got to the property we noticed signs posted not to fish. This was very disappointing.

This cabin has it all. Three master bedrooms, one on each floor. The upstairs bedroom has a Jacuzzi tub and a walk in shower. The hot tub out back was great. It is a very short drive to the river access. We put a canoe in at a bridge (Walt Sheets Bridge) a few miles away and basically floated back to the house in about 1.25 hours +/-. I couldn't have asked for a better vacation, except it wasn't long enough. We were a group of three couples and one child and a dog. Plenty of room for 7 people. We tried fishing in the pond, but I don't think there are fish in it.

The cabin is beautiful! It really has everything you need for a nice quiet weekend away. It is close to town, the Blue Ridge parkway and other great site seeing spots. The only problem we noticed was the WIFI was very spotty and if you want to stream movies or try to work, it will prove to be difficult. Thankfully we didn't need the wifi for our weekend.

Every year we take my parents on a trip to the mountains. This year we stayed at Kapena Escape. The house was amazing. We had more than enough room for 8 adults. My dad absolutely loved the wrap around porch. I think he spent most of the trip on there. My children loved the hot tub. And my mother loved the mountain views. The basement was like another house. We rode around Jefferson and looked at all the sites. We are thinking about renting it again next year for our family vacation.

Our stay at the Kapena Escape was wonderful! The location is beautiful, we loved the cabin's mountain views while being in a gated community. Our dogs loved the yard to watch the wildlife and loved being taken for long walks around the neighborhood. The cabin was equipped to our satisfaction. We cooked almost every meal there. We had plenty of space to not be crowded on top of each other for 8 people and all the beds were comfortable. We only had one issue which the management staff was very professional and quick to respond. We loved the cabin and plan to have future stays.

The place was very nice. However, the kitchen has no pantry space for groceries and there are not too many options for cooking with regards to wooden utensils to use with the teflon pans.

This beautiful cabin has all the bells and whistles! It is beautifully decorated and has anything you might need and more! I traveled with 8 women for a girls trip so the gated community gave us a sense of security! The neighborhood is beautiful and the homes are so far apart that you don't have to worry about noisy neighbors. The hot tub was pristine and the house was as well. Very well kept and fells like home. We will definitely return!
